*** USING THIS SITE / DOWNLOADING RINGTONES ***
1. Ringtones are currently available in "m4r format" (ringtones for Apple iPhone) only. All iPhone ring tones were encoded at 256kB aac (super-high quality) for your listening pleasure.
2. To use the instant auditioning, simply roll the mouse over the red buttons. Buttons change from dull to bright red when ready to play (this might take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on your connection speed). * Instant auditioning is working fine in Firefox. If the buttons do not change color in Safari you could try Safari>Empty Cache . Preview files were compressed in order to load faster and are much lower audio quality than the actual m4r ringtones.
3. To download ringtones, option-click (Apple) or control-click (PC) the link that says "m4r". Ringtones are 100% free for you to enjoy (but you may not sell them). There's no catch, no signup or hidden fees, no sneaky tactics, no nothing. These ringtones are entirely free for your personal use and enjoyment! :)
*** HOW TO UPLOAD RINGTONES TO IPHONE ***
1. Once you have downloaded the ringtones you want... in order to upload the ringtones to your iPhone; first open iTunes. Then drag 'n' drop the ringtones into the Library > Ringtones area. This should be visible in the upper left part of the main window:
2. Next, connect your iPhone to your computer in the usual manner with the cable provided. Depending on your settings, sync will either happen automatically, or when you hit the big "sync" button in the lower right corner of the main iTunes window. (I personally prefer not to enable automatic sync)
3. Make sure in your settings for ringtones, "sync ringtones" is checked.
4. If sync is not automatic, hit the sync button on the lower right corner of the iTunes window. Ringtones should upload to iPhone!
5. When sync is complete and it is ok to disconnect the iPhone, disconnect.
*** AUDITIONING YOUR RINGTONES IN THE IPHONE AND CHOOSING A DEFAULT RINGTONE ***
1. One you have disconnected the iPhone (make sure it is "ok to disconnect"), head for the main iPhone window in the usual manner - and then tap the "Settings" icon.
2. Then tap "Sounds". Then "Ringtone" - and you will be able to select and audition your new ringtones! Cool!
*** ASSIGNING CUSTOM RINGTONES TO ANYONE IN YOUR CONTACTS ***
1. You can assign a different ringtone to anyone in your Contacts! This can be great fun and also useful for knowing who it is that's calling you. First tap the "Phone" icon.
2. Next tap "Contacts". Then, select a contact that you would like to assign a custom ringtone. From there, tap the "Ringtone" area and you can then choose either "Default" (which is the default Ringtone selected in the main settings) or "Custom" which will enable you to select any ringtone you want and assign it to that contact.
*** ASSIGNING CUSTOM RINGTONES TO YOUR ALARM CLOCK ***
Fed up with being woken up by annoying bleepy alarm clocks? No longer! You can assign any ringtone to be a custom alarm clock sound.
1. First, from the main screen, select the "clock" icon.
2. From the bottom row of options, select "Alarm".
3. To create a new alarm, hit the "plus" button, set the settings you want and from the "sound" area you can choose any ringtone you want to be your alarm clock sound.
4. To edit the sound of an existing alarm, hit the "edit" button, select the alarm you want to edit and then adjust your settings in the same manner as above.
5. Super bonus tip - if you have audio programming skills, you could program your own ringtones and use them as alarm clock sounds. I hear of one person who had a song start really quietly and gradually fade in so as to not wake up too suddenly.
